Military Woman of the Year
To support the promotion of women in the defense industry, WID Palmetto Chapter initiated the Military Women of the Year award in 2009. MWOY is designed to recognize women serving in the Armed Forces to include Active Duty and Reservist/National Guard, who have displayed leadership, commitment to national security, education and community as well as promoted for the advancement and recognition of women. Awarding only one MWOY in the past, WID-PC expanded the scope of MWOY in 2016 to allow for broader recognition of women in the military based on rank. Award categories for all services include:
- Junior Enlisted: E-1 to E-6
- Senior Enlisted/Warrant Officers: E-7 to E-9 and W-1 to W-3
- Company Grade Officers: O-1 to O-3
- Field Grade Officers, O-4 to O-5
Separate awards are made in each of these categories for Active Duty and Reservist/National Guard.
WID Palmetto Chapter hosts an annual soiree to acknowledge all nominees and announce the year’s winners. The event, typically held in the Spring, also serves as WID-PC’s annual STEM Scholarship fundraiser. The WID-PC STEM Scholarship awards two $2,500 scholarships to female students in South Carolina pursuing STEM degrees, with one scholarship reserved for Active Military, Reservist/National Guard or Veteran. This year’s MWOY soiree will be held on in Spring 2018 (date & time TBD) at Founders Halls of Charlestown Landing. For more information on the MWOY soiree, check out our event page.
WID PC is now accepting 2017 MWOY Nominations through March 2nd, 2017.
