STUDENT CHAPTER OF WID KICK-OFF AT THE CITADEL

The Palmetto Chapter of Women In Defense (WID) is proud to announce that we are kicking off a student chapter of WID at The Citadel. We are excited about reaching this milestone and anticipate that this is the beginning of a lasting relationship that will be valuable for all participants. We are also happy to report, that the school has designated Senior Naval Instructor, LT Ritarsha Furqan as our central point of contact.

To kick off the year, we are going to begin with a networking event similar in format to what we did last January - brief introduction to WID and mentoring, followed by roundtable discussions with students. Mentors will be sitting at tables labeled – active duty military, former military, federal government, defense contractor.

BASIC INFORMATION:

Friday, November 11 (Veterans Day)
Time: 12 – 1:30
Riverview Room at The Citadel (see attached map for parking)
Lunch will be provided
Purpose - to provide students with an introduction to:
- WID
- Mentoring
- Networking
- Local defense community

We are initially opening up the invite to mentors who have participated before and are WID members. Please verify that your membership is up to date. If you need to renew your membership, go to http://wid.ndia.org/membership/Pages/default.aspx.

Please RSVP to Meg Rhodes at citadel@widpalmettochapter.org by Friday, November 4, 2011 with the following information:

Can you participate?
What “category” do you fit in? (More than one may apply)
- active duty military (which branch)
- former military (which branch)
- federal government
- defense contractor

We are working to have a good cross-section of participants in proportion to the number of cadets that sign up. More mentors may be needed based on your responses and the number of cadets. Mentors name tags will indicate categories, but mentors will be placed at tables for a specific category. Table assignments will be determined once we know how the demographics break down. If you are active duty, you are welcome to wear your uniform. Some ideas for you to consider:

Plan to arrive a little before noon
Bring business cards to leave at the door for students to pick up as they leave
Most of the students will have classes that follow, so for some their departure may be swift

More information will be posted as the event gets closer.
